I bought one of these for $12 at a local retailer thinking it would be a good replacement for the Clairol straightener I've had for several years that had some
"burnt on" straigtener spray and was starting to tug at my hair.
Wrong. Despite the claim of "true grip" plates, this iron does not have floating plates which is what I assumed they were referring to. The plates are stationary and supposedly angled to compensate for the shape of the iron to avoid gaps between them. This is not the case. Unless you squeeze the heck out of the iron, in which case your hair won't move between the plates at all, there is a very sizable gap between them once you get past the halfway point on the plates. The part closest to the handle is just the opposite and I found it pulling my hair. The "sweet spot" is about an inch long IF THAT and it's rather difficult to keep your hair in that area without it either moving up and sliding out or moving down and getting yanked and possibly...
